The MoMAF and ARISE+ Indonesia TA II delegation visited SUCOFINDO Laboratory in Cibitung, Jakarta (10/03)

Officials from the Quality and Safety Control Directorate Quality Control Centre - Fish Quarantine and Inspection Agency (FQIA BKIPM) and the Fish Quarantine and Inspection Standard Examination Laboratory (FQISE BUSKIPM) under the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MoMAF), facilitated by the ARISE+ Indonesia Technical Assistance (TA) II senior experts Arief Safari and Alain Peyre, visited the SUCOFINDO Laboratory in Cibitung, Jakarta on Thursday, 10 March 2022.

The Sub-Coordinator of Surveillance, FQIA BKIPM, Anggun Ratnawulan, said that the purpose of the visit was to benchmark the performance of the testing laboratory as a preparatory activity to organise capacity building sessions for laboratories within the MoMAF.

"The upcoming training aims to harmonise and enhance testing capacities of our labs to meet the EU requirements," Anggun said.

According to Anggun, SUCOFINDO was selected as a benchmark because it has complete laboratory facilities in Indonesia, the largest in Southeast Asia, and is nationally and internationally accredited for ISO/IEC 17025.

The MoMAF and ARISE+ Indonesia delegation were welcomed by the Vice President of SUCOFINDO Laboratory, Dani Pramantyo. A discussion on the capabilities of laboratory services was held, followed by a site tour to see several laboratory facilities at SUCOFINDO.

"We are happy to welcome the MoMAF delegation and ARISE+ Indonesia," Dani said.

In the meeting, Dani put forward his recommendations to improve the testing capacities of Indonesian laboratories and harmonisation with the EU methods and standard procedures.

"It is important to increase G2G cooperation or the MRA scheme to improve recognition of test results and certification in the EU and Indonesia and facilitate B2B cooperation between testing/certification institutions in both countries," Dani said.

On that occasion, SUCOFINDO presented and demonstrated SLIMS (SUCOFINDO Lab Information System) that efficiently and effectively monitored and controlled the Lab performance of 75 laboratories across Indonesia.

Iswadi Idris, the Lab Coordinator and Supervisor at FQISE BUSKIPM, commented that the Lab information system developed by SUCOFINDO was one of the best practices that could be taken as a model by other laboratories in Indonesia.
