Herlianti Hilman, Founder of Javara - a local food promotor - called for support from activists and influencers to promote Indonesian Geographical Indications (GIs) during the Indonesia Geographical Indication Show (IGIS) 2022 Talk Show at Ubud Food Festival, Saturday (25/06). Supporting Indonesian GIs means supporting local speciality commodities and farmers.

The talk show titled "Unlocking Indonesian Geographical Indications Opportunities" featured the participation of three other eminent panellists, namely  Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Director of Export Promotion Cooperation at the Ministry of Trade, Idris Tanjong, Sub-Coordinator of GI Supervision of the Directorate General of Intellectual Property, and the Chairman of Bali Amed Salt GI Association, I Nengah Suanda. Moderated by Vita Datau, the initiator of the Indonesian Gastronomy Network, the talk show discussed the development of GIs in Indonesia, their market opportunities as well as the challenges they face to reach Indonesian consumers.

Indonesian Geographical Indications (GIs) should be continuously promoted, considering that many people are still not fully aware of their unique characteristics.

"One of our homework is how to make GI products to be recognised, appreciated, and consumed," Ms Made said.

Chef Bara Pattiradjawane also enthusiastically promoted Indonesian GI products through his live culinary masterclass during one of the Ubud Food Festival programs. The vegetarian oyster mushrooms rendang, cooked using GI-certified spices, and served with GI-certified Adan Krayan Rice, quickly became a favourite among food enthusiasts that swarmed the festival on Friday (24/06).

As a Food and Flavour Development Chef, Bara has experimented dishes of exceptional flavours, taste and aroma seasoned by Indonesian GI spices. His outstanding creation using Indonesian GI spices includes Nasi Goreng Domba (Lamb Fried Rice), Vegetarian Rendang, Churros, and a signature drink combining Indonesian GI coffee, Java Preanger Tea, Koerintji Cinnamon, Siaw Nutmeg, and Kulon Progo Jogja Coconut Sugar. Since wearing his new hat as an Ambassador of Indonesian GIs, Chef Bara has been tirelessly promoting Indonesian GIs to domestic and international markets.

ARISE+ Indonesia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights Directorate General of Intellectual Property and the Ministry of Trade Directorate of Export Promotion Cooperation has been supporting selected Indonesian GI-certified agri-food in many areas including  promotion, branding, market linkages, product quality and  traceability. Bali Amed Salt, Adan Krayan Rice, Siaw Nutmeg, Koerinji Cinnamon, Jogja Kulon Progo Coconut Sugar, Atinggola Palm Sugar, Kintamani Arabica Coffee, Java Preanger Tea, Muntok White Pepper, East Luwu Pepper, Moloku Kie Raha Cloves, Minahasa Cloves, and Sumbawa Forest Honey are the main GI products that were promoted at Ubud Food Festival, 24-26 June 2022.
