Technical Assistance II

The kick-off meeting of the development of Grand Design on Investment was held in Bappenas, Tuesday (12/04)

In collaboration with ARISE+ Indonesia, the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) held kick-off meetings to commence the development of Grand Designs on Export Acceleration, Investment and Economic Cooperation. The separate kick-off meetings on Export Acceleration and Investment took place on Tuesday (12/04) in the morning and afternoon, while the kick-off of Economic Cooperation was held the following Monday (18/04).

In her opening remarks, the Director of Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation, P.N. Laksmi Kusumawati, said that the the Grand Designs aim to provide key insights and inputs into the National Annual Plans (RKPs), which fall under the final years of the current National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2020-2024 and important insights for the early-stage planning of the next RPJMN to cover the period 2025-2029.

"This is an important study for us, so we would like to thank ARISE+ Indonesia for the support," Ms Laksmi said.

The ARISE+ Indonesia Senior Expert, Dan Nicholls, who coordinates the technical assistance activity on Grand Design development, responded, "ARISE+ Indonesia is delighted to support Bappenas, its core government partner, with a very strategically important piece of of planning work in preparation for the next RPJMN."  

The initiative has engaged the Center for Economics and Development Studies (CEDS) of Padjadjaran University, Institute for Economic and Social Research – Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia (LPEM FEB UI) and Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) to conduct studies on Export Acceleration, Investment and International Economic Cooperation, respectively, under the supervision of Bappenas and the ARISE+ Indonesia Technical Assistance II.

The Grand Designs will assess and evaluate Indonesia's current export, investment, and economic cooperation performance, conduct comprehensive mappings of stakeholders and current policy instruments, benchmark selected countries on their approaches and performance, and develop action plans for each stakeholder.

In the three kick-off meetings, Ms Laksmi underscored the importance of export, investment, and economic cooperation in driving economic recovery and sustaining economic growth to achieve Indonesia's vision of becoming the fifth-largest economy by 2045.

"The development of investment planning should not merely focus on increasing the investment quantity, but also the quality to support sustainable development for the welfare of our communities," Ms Laksmi commented during the Investment kick-off meeting (12/04).

The final reports of the Grand Designs on Export Acceleration, Investment, and Economic Cooperation are expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Officials from Bappenas, the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Investment (BKPM), the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs, and the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs participated in the kick-off meetings.
